Terry Fox Marathon of Hope | |
Terry Fox started his Marathon of Hope on April 12, 1980 at St. John's Newfoundland by dipping his artificial leg into the Atlantic Ocean. His dream was to run across Canada to raise funds and awareness for cancer research. Sadly his dream ended on September 1, 1980 just outside Thunder Bay Ontario. In 143 days he ran 5,373 kilometers or 43 Km, 26 miles per day. In a nation that doesn't glorify heroes Terry Fox has attained a status among Canadians that no others have. Terry passed away June 28, 1981 he was 22. His legacy lives on in Terry Fox Runs in countries around the world and his statue occupies a very prestigious location across from Canada's Parliament Buildings. |
