Five Arch Stone Bridge North America's only 5 arch stone bridge spans the Mississippi River at the village of Pakenham in the Municipality of Mississippi Mills. Lanark County, Ontario, Canada. Built in 1901 the bridge measure 268 feet (82 m) long by 22 feet (7.5 m) wide. Each arch is 40 feet (12 m with a 2 metre rise). The piers are 8 feet thick in order to withstand the pressure of the crashing ice flows and high water levels in the spring. The original cost of the bridge in 1901 was $14,500.00 CDN. |
